Two big wins at the weekend, Jorge Campillo winning his second title after 5 play-off holes and a friend of this blog Tyrell Hatton, who won his first PGA Tour title and could now kick on to bigger and better things. Just the one event this week on the PGA Tour with the European event cancelled due to the Coronavirus, but it is the tournament often called the fifth major – The Players Championship.
PGA Tour The Players Championship
Sawgrass Ponte Vedra Beach Florida
Rory McIlroy will defend the title he won by one stroke from Jim Furyk last year, but he has looked a little vulnerable the last few weeks, particularly when the heat is turned up in the final round. That said, he has finished in the Top 6 in his last six events! Imagine being that good and not being at your absolute best, vintage Tigeresque!! Most of the top players have won here, besides Rory and Tiger, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson have all lifted the trophy, but there have been some shocks, Kim Si-woo, Tim Clark and never forgotten Craig Perks who stunned the golfing world at 500/1 in 2002.
The course is a great test with some real risk and reward holes and 16 and 17 provide a great climax to the round, a par 5 reachable in two, but with dangers and the famous island hole 17th where anything can happen. Sit back and enjoy.
